UCM pledges to protect state's unity, integrity

United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joy-chandra Konthoujam said that UCM is still committed to the cause of protecting Manipur's unity and integrity, and it will fight against all forces that are posing threat to the idea of a united Manipur.
He was speaking at a one-day public discourse on 'Manipur Integrity' held at MEIPA banquet hall at Palace Compound, here on Sunday.
Manipur University history department's retired professor N Joykumar moderated the discourse in which MU associate professor Dr Chinglen Maisnam, GP Women's College associate professor Konthoujam Indrakumar and DM College of Arts assistant professor Dr Arambam Noni spoke as resource persons.
In his presidential speech, Joychandra Konthoujam said that no community should try to disintegrate Manipur.
UCM stands for the unity and integrity of Manipur and its indigenous people.
UCM advocates improvement of relationship among different communities through inter-community marriage and other means.
It is the duty Of the present generation to protect the civilisation and boundary created by the forefathers for the future generation.
Unless the present generation does their duty, the future generation will recall them with despise.
UCM will face every single force including the black sheep that are working against the idea of a united Manipur, he said.
He also urged the younger generation to understand the several millennia old civilisation and history of Manipur and the blood relationship among the indigenous communities.
It is a must to forget past mistakes and stand united for a strong Manipur.
It is time to right the wrongs committed in the past and bring unity and integrity, he contended.
Three resolutions were adopted at the end of the discourse which include strong objection against any threat to the political, social, economic, cultural and historical identity of Manipur and age old relationship among the indigenous communities by ethnic based polity or administrative arrangements like Article 371(A).It also resolved to take a self-stand to safeguard Manipur and its future if the Government of India acts against the aspiration of the people of Manipur.
