Fortnight Barrier Free Campaign concluded

The "Fortnight Barrier Free Campaign" organised by the Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation, Manipur was brought to an end on Friday with a workshop on 'role of parents in creating barrier free environment' at Manipur Press Club.
HD Foundation had been conducting the campaign from October 17 to 31under the theme of "Let's Smile Together & Let's Walk Together." Kh Loyalakpa, editor, Naharolgee Thoudang, Y Premita Devi, Headmistress, Government Ideal Blind School, Th Dorendro Singh Patent and Dr Ch Rupachandra Singh, chairman, HD Foundation, Manipur were on the dais at the closing ceremony.
During the campaign the foundation held awareness programmes at different schools.
On October 30, the foundation also submitted letters to local cable services ISTV and Impact TV requesting the media houses to provide sign language interpreters and auditory narrators on their news channels for both the hearing impaired and visually impaired.
The foundation also submitted a letter to the Film Forum, Manipur requesting it to provide auditory narrator in films for the visually impaired.
The foundation has been organising the Barrier Free Campaign every year since the year 2008 with the main objective to create an environment that is accessible and useable by everyone in the society, including people with disabilities.
