Romi Meitei's "Curfew' wins NHRC award

Renowned Manipuri film maker Romi Meitei is among three winners of a film competition based on human rights organised by National Human Rights Commission of India.
The award was presented at the opening session of the national conference on 'Human Rights in India; culture and philosophy' jointly organised by National Human Rights Commission and Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Thursday.
The opening session of the conference inaugurated by Union home minister Amit Shah was also attended by NHRC chairperson justice Arun Mishra, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts board of trustee member Ram Bahadur Rai, commission members justice MM Kumar, Dr DM Mule and Rajiv Jain and several legal experts.
Romi Meitei was named among three winners of the film competition for his film 'Cur few' while two other winners are Sandeep from Hyderabad and Nilesh from Maharashtra.
The award carries Rs 2 lakh in cash, certificate and memento each.
Delighted on winning the award, Romi Meitei said that his film 'Curfew' highlights suffering of innocent people and society due to prolonged imposition of Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Manipur and he appreciated National Human Rights Commission for honouring his efforts in exposing ill effects of AFSPA imposition in a narrative film medium.
