Imphal, April 30 2015 :
Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB-AMN) strongly condemned the "arrogant and high-handedness" behaviour of 25 Assam Rifles (AR) commander Major Vinod and his jawans meted out to Customs Officer Gaikhonlung Panmei on April 28 at a place between Tujang Vaichong and Chawang Kining, near Kangpokpi along IT Road.
In a statement issued on Thursday, ZB (AMN) General Secretary Gairiangmei Maringmei said Gaikhonlung Panmei was frisked, detained, harassed, and grilled for an hour.
He alleged that this kind of incident is not the first time by Assam Rifles in Manipur state.
He said even the MLAs and ministers are not spared.
Such actions are a result of lack of discipline and total disregard and discrimination to the North East people, said ZB-AMN.
The unethical action of the Major Vinod and his jawans clearly showed that they are not meant to protect and safeguard the life of the citizens.
"We urged the Chief Minister, Home Minister of Manipur, and concern authority to take necessary action against the Major Vinod and his foot soldiers immediately so that in the future no such incident takes place" .
It may be mentioned that Assam Rifles posting in different parts of Zeliangrong inhabited areas, particularly in Tamenglong district of Manipur are frequently harassed, detained, and frisked the Government officials and common man travelling on the road in the name of maintaining law and order.
Such unnecessary harassment and treatment of individual is unfortunate and highly condemnable, said ZB (AMN) .
