Imphal, December 31 2019: Mourning the demise of Manipur State Shumang Leela Council vice-president Thongam (o) Shanti Devi, a condolence ceremony was organised by the council at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai today.

Members of Manipur State Shumang Leela Council were present at the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, lifetime secretary of the Council, S Hemanta maintained that Shanti was a dedicated women and a mother who played crucial role in safeguarding and upholding Shumang Leela of the State.

He continued that Shanti, who was the first artist of Nupi Leela, was among other pioneers who revived the Moirang Parva during 1975-76 when the art form started dying in 1974 .

Hemanta said that the art form is alive till present day as a result of the hard work and dedication put in by people like Shanti.
