Only one Omicron case: K Rajo

Health Services director K Rajo Singh has clarified that there is only one confirmed case of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19 in the state which was detected on December 27 .
In a statement, director K Rajo informed that no new cases of the Omicron variant has been detected in the state and all the primary and secondary contacts of the confirmed case have been traced and testing is underway.
Three primary contacts'have tested positive for Covid-19 and their samples sent for Whole Genome Sequencing to IBSD Takyelpat.
Tracing and testing for secondary contacts is continuing and no further positive case has been found till date.
The director further stated that the Omicron variant is highly transmissible compared to other variants of Covid-19 and as such advised the public to adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour and wear masks mandatorily, adding that masks have been found effective against all variants of Covid-19.He also assured the public that there is no need to panic and instead keep oneself and the communities safe.
Furthermore, he urged everyone to get vaccinated, maintain physical distancing, hand hygiene and wear mask, always.
Lastly, he urged the general public to only rely on information verified by the state government.
It may be noted that on Monday, the first case of Omicron variant of coro-navirus in the northeast was reported in Manipur.
A 48-year-old man from Imphal West district with travel history to Tanzania was found with Omicron variant after his return from the trip.
The patient is currently undergoing treatment at JNIMS Hospital.
