Imphal, November 28 2024:
Saying that suspending classes and internet services and imposing public curfew should not be the only way to avert law and order crisis, the Taragi Cheisu has urged the Government to withdraw all these restrictions in the larger interest of the people.
Addressing the media at Khurai Ahongei Leikai today, Taragi Cheisu chairman Khaidem Mani said that there is no governance at all in Manipur.
Saying that there should not be any hindrance in enforcing law and order, he said that the Government in Manipur, however, seems to be working with both its hands and legs tied.
Kh Mani advised that the Government should explore another means to avert law and order crisis instead of imposing curfew and suspending normal classes and internet services all the time.
The Government has failed in all aspects, he added.
Saying that the ban on the internet has crossed 11 days after periodical extensions, he added that banning internet services for a prolonged period is wrong.
The cyber crime unit and police can always take action against those who upload abusive and harsh posts on social media if necessary, he said and added that Taragi Cheisu is against the internet ban.
Continuing that the Government closing schools and colleges for an indefinite period is also wrong, he added that the academic atmosphere should not be disrupted as much as possible.
Article 21A of the Constitution guarantees the right to free and compulsory education for all children, Kh Mani said and maintained that closing schools and colleges in anticipation of agitation is the biggest mistake on the part of the Government and violation of rule of law.
Closing educational institutions in fear of protests by students is the same as skipping sleep, fearing a nightmare, he said and added that the Government should take up other preventive measures to avert law and order crisis instead of shutting down schools.
On the disappearance of Laishram Kamalbabu from inside Leimakhong Army base, Kh Mani said that there is a record of the person entering the Army camp but no evidence of him leaving the place as per reports.
Saying that letting a person disappear from the military camp is a big shame for the entire Indian Army, he added that the head of the 57 Mountain Division should clarify the issue.
The Indian Army, however, hasn't made any public statement regarding the disappearance of the person who was supervising contract work at the Leimakhong military base, he said and maintained that the Chief Minister needs to exert his power to locate the missing person.
Manipur will become a completely failed State if the Government doesn't take up corrective actions and build confidence among the people, Kh Mani advised.
Chairman of Taragi Cheisu (Legal Wing) A Noutuneshwari said that the killing of three children by Kuki-Zo people has sent shockwaves throughout the State and beyond.
Saying that a POCSO case should be taken up against the killing of three children, she added that the people should not remain silent simply because the case has been taken up by NIA.
People who vandalised the residences of MLAs are being booked while those who killed innocent Meeteis and drove them out of their villages are still at large, she said and added that everyone should be equal in front of the law.
