Six held for impersonating police

Imphal, August 28 2022: Imphal East district police commando arrested six people on the charge of threatening an individual by impersonating police officer and constables on Sunday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Thokchom Dayananda (39) son of Th Dilip, Thokchom Naoba (24) son of Th Deben, Thokchom Banta (31) son of Th Dilip, Thokchom Shivadutta (26) son of Th Dilip, Heikrujam Bhabananda (31) son of late H Bineshwor and Nepram Sushil Kumar (40) son of N Manihar all of Koirou Thongju Part-II, Imphal East.

Police source said that a commando team carried out a frisking operation in Top Moirangkampu Khewa Keithel area on getting specific information about some individuals impersonating as commando personnel.

During the operation, the CDO team intercepted a black coloured Mahindra Scorpio SUV along with two occupants, who were identified as Thokchom Dayananda and Thokchom Naoba.

Upon questioning, the two disclosed that they are members of a gang, who posed as police officer and constables and threatened an individual.

They were arrested on the spot around 12.35 pm.

On their disclosure, the CDO team learned about the rest of the gang members and they were arrested from Khurai Lamlong Keithel along with a grey coloured Hyundai Creta car at around 1.35 pm.

They confessed to impersonating as SI and constables of Manipur police department and carrying out a search operation at the house of one Khumanthem Jalim (24) son of late Kh Ingocha of Top Moirangkampu Mayai Leikai.

They also asked the family members to come to the nearby PS while threatening of dire consequences if he did not come.

Several mobile phones along with the two vehicles were seized from their possession.

The six along with the seized items have been handed over to Porompat police station.
