Commando constable held with drugs worth Rs 2.5 cr

A team of Tengnoupal District Commando arrested three people including a constable of Kakching Commando Unit for smuggling brown sugar worth Rs 2.5 crore.
Briefing media persons his office on Saturday, Tengnoupal SP Th Vikramjit Singh informed that police teams led by Moreh Commando OC M Robindro and SI M Uttam Singh were deployed from Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No 2 till Moreh police station from around 4 pm on Friday after getting information that a large consignment of drugs will be transported from Myanmar.
Later, one of the teams stopped two people who came riding a Kenbo bike with a carton box from the direction of Gate No 2 but they threw away the box in front of AC Hotel near Moreh Bazar and sped away.
They were pursued by the commando team but they got away taking advantage of the crowded bazar, he said.
The SP continued that on opening the abandoned box, the commando team recovered 100 packets of brown sugar weighing 1 kg 254 gm in total worth Rs 2.5 crore in international market.
On receiving information that the two people have fled to Imphal, a Moreh Commando team pursued them.
At about 6:30 pm Friday, the team arrested Kakching District Commando constable Moirangthem Sushil who was involved in the smuggling of the drug.
During interrogating, he revealed the name of his accomplice as Yumkhaibam Warish of Lilong Houreibi Awang Leikai, who was arrested from Wangjing Bazar.
Later, the owner of the drug identified as Hafijuddin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi was also arrested from Wangjing Bazar around 7:30 pm on Friday, the SP informed.
Vikramjit further mentioned that a case under NDPS Act 1985 has been registered and all the arrested people along with the seized items have been handed over to Moreh police station.
The Tengnoupal SP also presented cash reward to OC M Robindro and SI M Uttam for seizing the huge quantity of drugs.
