Imphal, August 27 2020:
Forest Department today dismantled a house built illegally by encroaching Langol Reserved Forest area at Warok under Lamdeng Block, Sadar West Range.
Central Forest Division DFO RK Amarjit said some people taking advantage of the lockdown are encroaching on the lands under the Langol Reserved Forest areas.
Earlier the officer said they had on August 22 dismantled another house built on encroached land.
These encroachers first start by building a small hut and later convert it into a pucca building, he said.
Under instructions from the Chief Minister and Forest Minister, in order to rectify the confusions and errors in the records of the Reserved Forest Land, a committee with Chief Secretary as the Chairman has been formed with officials from Forest and Revenue Departments.
The committee is presently conducting the surveys, he said.
Stating that Langol Reserved Forest plays a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of Imphal city, the officer appealed to the people to extend support in saving the reserved forest areas for the sake of future generation.
