4 arrested in hospital looting case

The district police have today detained four persons reportedly for stealing three solar batteries from the Churachandpur District Hospital's 25KV solar power plant, a day after the hospital authorities have reported the case.
Acting swiftly on the complain filed by the hospital authorities, a police team led by the OC, Elvy Tunglut, through a network of informers, began a manhunt for the thieves.
The team today received inputs about some people trying to sell battery plates to scrap collectors and immediately apprehended them.
Upon questioning the arrested men have reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming that they had looted the solar plant at around 6.15pm on Sunday night.
Police sources said the thieves after stealing the batteries damaged the shell and took the plates with them, which they tried to sell early today at the rate of Rs 30 per kilogram.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ginlianjohn Thangsing (25) s/o Kaipao Thangsing of Hill Town; Thangkhanmang Munluo (29) s/o Thangkholen Munluo of Mission Veng; Paukhomang Taitom (29) s/o Khaichin Taitom of Simveng and Ngampao Haokip (22) s/o Jamngam Haokip of S Bungjang, Sangaikot.
Though the batteries have been destroyed and the backup capacity of the solar plant has been reduced considerably, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital Dr N Paulginthang visited the police station and commended them for acting swiftly on the case.
