Govt asked to solve urea shortage issue: MP Kanimozhi

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Fertiliser and Chemical chairperson and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has assured of resolving the issue of shortage of urea in Manipur.
The MP gave the assurance while visiting the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) at Takyelpat on Thursday.
MP Karunanidhi arrived here on Wednesday as part of a 16-member Parliamentary Standing Committee under the Ministry of Chemical and Fertiliser, which is on a two-day visit to the state.
Immediately on their arrival in the state, the Committee met top officials of the state's agriculture department and some farmers at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong during which the agriculture officials were instructed to resolve the problems faced by the state as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, speaking on the sidelines of the visit to CIPET on Thursday, Karunanidhi informed that they have been briefed with media reports and testimonies of 7-8 farmers regarding the issue of urea shortage in the state.
As a follow-up to the meeting on Wednesday, the state government has been directed to resolve the issue of urea shortage.
Additionally, the centre will be taking up measures to alleviate the concerns of the farmers regarding the quantity of their crop yield.
The MP then urged the state government to ensure timely supply of urea to the farmers.
The Committee members also include Lok Sabha additional director, under-secretary and economic advisor of the Department of Fertiliser.
The team will be leaving for Delhi on Friday.
