Imphal, March 26 2018:
Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen has strongly urged Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) to reach out to all the women including those residing in far flung areas for any awareness programme, activity and seminar conducted for their welfare as the Government firmly believes in inclusive development.
She was speaking at the inaugural function of a two days State level seminar on the topic "Promotion and Welfare for Women with Disabilities" held today.
The seminar is organised by Manipur State Commission for Women under the aegis of National Commission for Women, New Delhi.
Addressing the gatherings as chief guest, Minister Nemcha stated that the topic "Promotion and Welfare for Women with Disabilities" chosen for the seminar is suitable in the present scenario since women and children are often referred as the 'vulnerable sections' of the society.

She highlighted the issues and challenges faced specially by differently-abled women in the State.
Mostly, they are challenged by many obstacles restricting their ability to play a significant role in the society.
So, such seminars will serve as a platform for these women to open doors for their self-sustainability and independence, she stated.
The Minister also pointed out the various schemes implemented by the Social Welfare Department for the welfare and upliftment of women of the State, especially disabled women, destitute, divorcees and widows.
She firmly believed that through such schemes and programmes the differently abled persons of the State could be empowered.
She asserted that the Central Government has introduced many innovative schemes including scholarship for person with disabilities, providing employment to persons with disabilities, assistance for disabled persons for purchase/fitting of aids and appliances, schemes under Deen Dayal Disabled Rehabilitation which aim at promoting voluntary action for person with disabilities, National award for the employment of person with disabilities, etc.
Nemcha Kipgen lauded MSCW for working selflessly for the empowerment of women in the State.
So far, the commission has resolved 666 cases out of the total 701 cases received.
Presiding over the function, Chairperson (MSCW) Dr K Sobita Devi expressed that the objective of organising the seminar is not just to strengthen the differently-abled women about their spiritual power but also to overcome all the agonies and hurdles that they may face in the future by sharing, learning and gaining essential knowledge pertaining to their rights.
Members of the commission, Soibam (O) Neelima Devi, Dr Farida Shah and Ranjita Golmei attended the occasion as guests of honour.
Technical sessions on various topics will also be held during the seminar.
