Leader of extortion gang arrested

Imphal, February 26 2023: A team of Special Commando unit, Khabeisoi arrested leader of a gang, which has been extorting money from the people, particularly railway staff.

The arrested gang leader has been identified as Irom Ronaldo (22) s/o Irom Raja of Haorang Khunou Mayai Leikai.

According to a police report, on receipt of reliable input about some gang members extorting money in Haorang Khunou Mayai Leikai area around 5am on Sunday, a team of the Special Commando unit went to the location, cordoned off some houses and conducted search operation.

During the operation, the team detained a suspicious person and carried out verification.

The person, identified as Irom Ronaldo, was found to be the leader of an extortion gang which targeted civilians, particularly railway staff.

He was found to be the same person who flashed a gun after unsuccessfully extorting railway workers in October last, and later, went on to set fire to an excavator (JCB).

Upon further investigation, the team also found a toy gun buried near his house, which he allegedly used to threaten people.

Subsequently, the team arrested Ronaldo around 5.40 am on Sunday and handed him over to Lamsang PS for further course of legal action, the report informed.
