Rotary Club honours sports-persons

Imphal, November 25 2018: Rotary Club of Imphal and Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal hosted the District governor of Rotary International District 3240, Dr Sayantan Gupta and the first lady of the district Dr Pushpita in a ceremony held at Rotary Bhavan, Mantripukhri, on November 22.Assistant governor Zone 9 Rtn Thangjam Arunkumar, president of Rotary Club of Imphal Dr Th Sudhiranjan, president of Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal Rtn Pradeep Meitram, secretaries of the two clubs Rtn Manish Jain and Rtn Joybi Heikrujam were on the dais along with the District governor.

As part of community service project, several awards were distributed during the District governor's official visit.

Senior Citizens' Awards were given to Dr RK Herojit and Dr Ksh Bimolata Devi.

Senator Okram Footballer of the Year Award was given to International footballer Ngangom Bala Devi.

Outstanding Sportsperson Award was conferred to Naorem Roshibina Devi, the Wushu Bronze Medallist of Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia.

A wheelchair was also donated to a differently-abled person Oinam Rohit Singh of Kakching.

Earlier in the day, the governor and assistant governor along with the club officials visited Th Birachandra Singh Football Academy at Toubungkhok and donated sports kits - 20 footballs, 30 bibs and two sets of cones and markers to encourage the young football players.

This was followed by inauguration of handwashing stations at Achanbigei Primary High School at Achanbigei under Rotary's WASH in Schools (WinS) program in support of the National campaign "Swachh Bharat: Swachh Vidhyala" .
