Social media incomparable with newspapers: MP Sanajaoba

Expressing that one's morning is incomplete without reading the newspapers delivered by hawkers early in the morning, Lok Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has contended that social media cannot match the taste and depth provided by newspapers.
Speaking as the chief guest of the Hawkers' Day programme organised by the Manipur Hawkers' Association at the Sanamahi Temple in Haying Khongbal Uphong Yumpham on Sunday, MP Sanajaoba noted that inspite of living in the digital era and conveniently accessing information via the social media, it can never replace newspapers as the latter offer a unique depth and variety of content, from editorial columns to specialised pages, which social media is bereft of.
Acknowledging the role of newspaper distributors (hawkers), the MP noted without their efforts, the value of producing newspapers would be diminished.
Therefore, it is essential to respect and recognise the contributions and responsibilities of hawkers.
He also encouraged hawkers to take pride in their profession, emphasising that everyone should contribute to societal development.
Additionally, he highlighted the need for organising workshops and seminars to better understand the important roles of hawkers in society.
Regarding the importance of establishing an office and guest house for the Manipur Hawkers' Association, MP Leishemba Sanajaoba revealed that the matter has been already discussed with the chief minister along with urging the Association to locate suitable site for the construction.
Pledging to contribute his mite in the materialisation of the project, he also called upon the association to discuss their welfare activities with him and assured maximum full cooperation.
Delivering the presidential speech, Manipur Hawkers' Association president Wangkhem Ajit Singh said that to become a hawker requires not only education and determination but also an understanding of history.
The profession demands both discipline and patience without which, sustaining a career as a hawker would be impossible.
Despite challenges such as bandhs, blockades, and humanitarian crisis, hawkers continue to deliver newspapers to homes, he maintained and described the profession as one of sacrifice.
The function was also attended by Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board member secretary Shivdutta Luwang as guest of honour.
During the event, pensions were awarded to two retired hawkers, and gifts presented to individuals who donated to the association.
