TDC volunteers to mend Makru Bridge

Imphal, July 25 2013: Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC), Manipur has expressed willingness to repair Makru Bridge along Imphal-Jiribam Road (NH-37) if the State Government and Border Roads Organization (BRO) are not ready to take up the repairing works within a short period.

Addressing media persons at the office of TDC at MG Avenue here today, President H Ranjit said that Makru Bridge is in a deplorable condition causing serious problems to the transporters and drivers plying along this highway.

TDC would do whatever it can to ensure safety of the drivers and passengers, he said.

Makru Bridge along Imphal-Jiribam Road (NH-37)

Ranjit further said that Union Minister of State for Defence Jitendra Singh along with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi had inspected the wretched condition of NH-37 from Nungba to Barak covering a distance of about 19 kilometres, but the worst portion of NH-37 is from Barak to Nungdolan.

The members of TDC had inspected NH-37 on July 20 prior to the Ministerial visit.

The team continued up to Jiribam and found the highway stretch from Shati Khunou to Jiribam properly blacktopped.

About 100 oil tankers including 35 LPG bullets were brought to Imphal by the team to mitigate shortage of petroleum products in the State, Ranjit added.

TDC also thanked the State Government for providing foolproof security to the team.
