Rains flood low lying areas in Churachandpur

Churachandpur, June 25 2022:
Several low laying areas in and around Churachandpur town have been flooded since the wee hours of Saturday due to incessant rainfall in the past few days.
Residential pockets along the downstream of Khuga river like Nengthawng Veng, Kerith Veng, Meitei Christian Leikai, Zomunnuam, Kamdou Veng, Ngulden Veng, Nazareth Veng, Neihsial Veng and New Zoveng have been affected badly by the flood.
These areas face recurring flood every year inundating large part of residences and agricultural fields.
As many as 100 households have been partially affected while 45 households need evacuation, stated SDO/Chu-rachandpur Dharun Kumar.
Water level of Khuga river receded from 12 noon to 1pm on Saturday but increased again as heavy downpour lashed the town late after -noon thereby creating panic among villagers.
Meanwhile, the district administration is preparing to provide immediate relief to affected villagers and makeshift relief camps have been opened at several places to shelter evacuated villagers.
SDO Dharun Kumar also visited flood-hit areas from early Saturday morning and inspected relief camps and provided immediate relief materials.
Meanwhile, Khuga Tampak Youth's Association (KTYA), Churachandpur distributed relief materials like rice, potato, Dal, cooking oil, salt, water to 27 households directly affected by flood at Khuga Tampak Christian Leikai area.
