Imphal, January 25 2023:
Amid allegations and counter allegations between the Congress party and the government over the visit of MPCC president MLA K Meghachandra to the office of SP Kakching and addressing the media in connection with a drug seizure case and arrest of five CDO personnel on January 16, Kakching PS has registered a FIR against the MLA.
The FIR was registered following a complaint filed by ASI Govinda Kh of Kakching PS on January 21 at 2.30 pm against MLA Meghachandra and orieKshet-rimayum Kennedy of Kakching.
The complainant accused the MLA and his companion of "obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, criminal trespass with common intention - punishable under section 186/447/34 IPC" .
SI A Sandip Singh of Kakching PS was authorised to investigate the case.
The complainant submitted an enquiry report while filing the complaint, in which he said that Kakching SP Shrey Vats reported on January 18 that there was an instance of seizure of drugs at Pallel on January 16.While investigating the same, the SP returned to his office between 3 pm to 3.15 pm wherein he found MLA Meghachandra along with Kennedy, who is a resident of Kakching.
It has come to his notice through social media that MLA Meghachandra had given an interview to the press after leaving his office building without any intimation to him (SP) .
The SP submitted that providing interview to "social media", at a time when the investigation is underway and at a location where investigation work is going on acts as a huge distraction for the police, who are investigating a case, especially in the house immediately after the detection of a crime.
Further, passing unpleasant remarks on the war on drugs initiative and in close proximity to the place where investigation is going on without any intimation serves as a huge distraction to the working of the police.
Such activities dampen the momentum of investigation and act as an obstruction while performing the duties of police "During the course of enquiry it is also clear from social media that MLA K Meghachandra Singh along with Kshetrimayum Kennedy had given an interview to the press at the office building of SP Kakching without any intimation to the complainant.
It is therefore, requested to kindly registered a regular case for proper investigation", the ASI said in his report.
