Sangai Film Festival 2022 underway

Imphal, November 24 2022: Sangai Film Festival 2022, which is being organised by Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) as part of the 11th edition of Manipur Sangai Festival, commenced at the MSFDS auditorium, Palace Compound, here, from Thursday.

Art and culture director L Kishworjit, MSFDS executive board member Makhonmani Mongsaba and senior actor Soraisam Keshoram attended the inaugural session of the five-day film festival as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Kishworjit appealed to the artistes to be humble while reminding that developing film industry needs good artistes, filmmakers and writers.

As film industry is closely related with promotion of culture and tourism, the government is taking up initiatives to improve film infrastructure, he said, while conceding the Manipur State Film Training Institute is facing shortage of staff.

Once the staff are appointed, the institute will help in the development of film industry in the state to a great extent, he opined.

According to Makhonmani Mongsaba, 2022 is not only the golden jubilee of Manipuri cinema but also a golden opportunity for the state's film industry to showcase its talents to a wider global audience.

Today, Manipuri films have been able to carve their own niche and occupy a place of its own in the global arena.

The celebration of the 50 Years of Manipuri Cinema in the ongoing 53rd International Film Festival of India in Goa speaks volume about progress of Manipuri film industry, he said.

The festival opened with screening of 'Eikhoigee Yum' directed by Romi Meetei.
