MLA Nemcha extols vision of BJP founder

As part of commemorating the 68th death anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and observance of Balidan Diwas, BJP Sadar Hills carried out a mass tree plantation at Kangpokpi on Thursday.
Kangpokpi MLA Nemcha Kipgen also took part in the commemorative event held at its office campus in Kangpokpi town.
The tree plantation drive was also participated by Premananda Meetei, general secretary BJP Manipur Pradesh; Kh Basanta, state secretary BJP Manipur Pradesh; Haokholal Hangshing, caretaker chairman ADC Sadar Hills; Thangjamang Kipgen, president BJP Sadar Hills; Tingnei Lhouvum, president BJP Kangpokpi Mandal and former ADC Sadar Hills member.
Different varieties of saplings including fruit-bearing trees were planted inside the office campus and its surrounding areas.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Nemcha recalled that Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was a barrister, academician and politician who promoted the idea of nationalism and sowed the seeds of a strong political alternative in India.
Very few people would know that Dr Mukherjee was the youngest vice-chancellor of the University of Calcutta at the age 33 years.
He laid a strong foundation for India's industrial development and the first industrial policy of independent India announced in 1948 was stamped with his ideas and vision, she said.
Nemcha Kipgen also stressed the need for protection of the environment, saying that planting trees is of paramount importance to that end, adding, "We should also do something to ensure that the tree saplings planted today live to grow into trees and for that, we all should take the responsibility" .
