Super specialty unit for pulmonary medicine at JNIMS

A meeting of the state cabinet chaired by chief minister N Biren has approved opening of a super specialty branch for pulmonary medicine, commonly known as chest medicine, at the state-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) .
Interacting with media after the cabinet meeting held on Saturday, IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan said that the cabinet also approved the Revised Estimate 2023-24 and Budget Estimate 2024-25 to be tabled as Vote on Account in the ensuing state assembly session, which will begin from February 28 .
It also approved The Manipur Goods and Services Tax (6th Amendment) Bill, 2024, The Manipur Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (5th Amendment) Bill, 2024, and Manipur Labour Law (Exemption from Renewal of Registration and License by Establishments) Manipur Bill, 2024 for tabling in the House.
The cabinet further approved implementation of 2nd National Judicial Pay Commission to be effective from January 1, 2016 to the Manipur Judicial Services as per Supreme Court order dated January 4, 2024 .
Among the unlisted agenda, Saturday's cabinet approved separate super specialty branch for pulmonary medicine with critical care unit at JNIMS.
It also approved appointment of a professor and two associate professors at the College of Nursing as per guidelines of the Indian Nursing Council.
Aligning with the mandatory establishment of automated testing station for fitness of vehicles, the cabinet approved direct purchase of 3.77 acres of land at the cost of Rs 1.52 crore at Tellou Teramakhong in Imphal East for setting up the station.
Once completed, vehicles operating in the state will require certificate from the Centre, especially while travelling to other states, the minister said.
The cabinet also approved service extension of retired officials in some departments as required, and consequently extension of Externally Aided Project and PWD chief engineer Y Joykumar for three months as there are still several agreements yet to be signed for the ADB funded Imphal Ring Road project.
It also approved extension of service of LDA project director Bhagaton for three months, and one year for PHED chief engineer, veterinary and animal husbandry director Dr Ng Ibotombi, and health & family welfare engineering cell, executive engineer & consultant architect S Geeta.
Furthermore, the cabinet approved opening a registrar translation wing at the High Court of Manipur and appointment of three junior grade translators for translating court judgments from English to Manipuri (Meetei Mayek and Roman script), Dr Ranjan added.
