Sensitization Programme for teachers held at Moirang

A One Day District Level Sensitisation Programme for Mandatory Training of Untrained Elementary Teachers was held under the auspices of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Centre Moirang at its conference hall located at Moirang Lamkhai today.
Speaking on the occasion, Angom Ningthem, DI of Zone IV, Bishnupur, stated that the Government of India has implemented the Right to Education (RTE) Act which guarantees free and compulsory education to every child in the age group of 6 to 14 years.
Under such initiative, an in-service elementary teacher who does not possess the required training to be a teacher till 2015 can be expelled from his/her service.
Under the RTE Act, it has been mentioned that an in-service elementary teacher (recruited after September 3, 2001) who does not possess minimum qualifications as laid down by the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) should compulsorily required to acquire the minimum professional qualification of two years diploma in Elementary Education or any other equivalent qualifications prescribed by NCTE, over and above the educational qualification.
As such all teachers should follow the rules mentioned in the Act.
Those teachers who have not attained the basic training can avail the training from DIET Centre, IGNOU and other institutions.
It is for this reason that the sensitization programme is being conducted, he explained.
Rajeshwar of SCERT, who was also present on the occasion, stated that basic training for teachers are required to teach the students at their level best.
Without the basic training it would be difficult to impart quality education to their students, because the method of teaching to the students in the past is quite different from the present.
The inaugural function of the training programme was attended by Kh Yaima, ZEO, Zone IV, Bishnupur and K Ishorkumar, District-in-charge, SCERT, Government of Manipur as Chief Guest and President respectively.
T Manglem, retiored Principal, Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School and T Prameshkumar, DI/DDO, ZEO Zone IV, Bishnupur were also present as Guests of Honour.
