Imphal, May 23 2023:
The United Pukhao Protection Com-mittee has expressed discontentment that there is no help provided for the relief camp opened at Pukhao since May 4 from the side of the government till date.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, Committee presi-dent Thokchom Sanjoy said that during the communal violence since May 3, villages in Pukhao area namely Dolaithabi, Yengkhuman, Ekou and Leitanpokpi were burnt down by miscreants.
Homeless people of these villages are taking refuge in the relief camps opened at Pukhao.
Many individuals, clubs and NGOs have been providing relief materials for the dis-placed people.
However, it is very unfortunate that the state government has not extended support to the displaced people staying in the relief camp, he said and appealed to the government to do the needful at the earliest.
Sanjoy also recalled that on May 4, a day after all the houses at Dolaithabi, Yengkhu-man, Ekou and Leitanpokpi were burnt down by the miscreants the displaced people came to Pukhao and fought with the armed Kuki militants during which 4 people were injured.
These people who fought with the armed Kuki militants saved the Pukhao area from being reduced to ashes.
Showing gratitude to those people who have saved Pukhao, the United Pukhao Protection Committee which was formed by 12 clubs provided monetary assistance.
Expressing fear over the future of people of Pukhao when security forces safeguarding the village against the Kuki militants, who are roaming freely in the area, move away or are pulled out, Sanjoy appealed to the authority concerned to speed up the pending process of issuing license firearms to the villagers for safeguarding themselves.
