Tribal Chiefs reject ADC's decision

Imphal, April 23 2013: Naga Chief Association, Chandel; Kuki Chief Association, Tengnoupal and Moreh and Machi Block Chief/ Chairman Association, Chandel district have rejected the decision adopted by members of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Chandel for deducting some percentage from the MGNREGS fund of Chandel district.

Denouncing the decision, the three associations said in separate statements that the deliberate and brazen decision so adopted is both shameful and disgusting.

MGNREGS is a flagship programme under the present UPA government of India which aims at decentralization of funds and active participation of rural folks for gradual self-service.

The decision adopted by the ADC is unprecedented.

It is unfortunate that our own members of ADC in Chandel district would stoop so low as to hijack the mandate of the public.

The Associations have also warned of public uproar in case the decision adopted by ADC, Chandel is not nullified.
