Workshop on Thang-Ta begins, Manipuri dance ends

A five-day workshop cum training on Thang-Ta focusing on 'Kabui Khousarol' jointly organised by Sana Konung Thang-Ta Loishang and Utra Shanglen commenced from Sunday at Utra Shanglen, Sana Konung, Imphal East.
'Angom Ningthou' Angom Poireiton and Sana Konung Thang-Ta Loishang 'Lanjing Purel' Athokpam Ojendro attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while Sana Konung 'Pukhramba' Thokchom Ibungohal, 'Khurai Lakpa' Hijam Raikumar, 'Laipham Lakpa' Salam Birendra, 'Wangkhei Lakpa' Laishram Poireiton, 'Khabam Lakpa' Chongtham Dushanta, and 'Naharup Lakpa' Haorongbam Sashi were the guests of honour.
Meanwhile, the month-long workshop and Manipuri dance production organised by Lian-da Folk and Cultural Academy under the CFPG scheme of the Ministry of Culture concluded on Sunday at the JN Manipur Dance Academy with presentation of seven forms of Manipuri dance.
Speaking as chief guest of the valedictory function, Art and Culture deputy director G Dharmadas Sharma urged parents to encourage their wards understand and embrace Manipuri culture, and help create a platform for future generations.
He emphasised the importance of supporting children, who excel in their respective art forms, to pursue them as a profession.
With the introduction of NEP 2020, the state is placing greater emphasis on art, culture, and skill development.
As a result, the art forms in which children excel will not go to waste, but help them become self-reliant in the future, he said while also encouraging the participants of the workshop to produce full productions, rather than just small items.
Presided over by Sangeet Na-tak Akademi awardee N Tiken, the function was also attended by State Leprosy officer Dr Salam Bocha as guest of honour.
