Imphal, December 22 2021:
Strongly denouncing the pre-poll violence that occurred in Heirok AC killing a student and injuring many others on Tuesday, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) have demanded authorities concerned to arrest the culprits and give them stringent punishment.
In a joint release, the student bodies informed that apart from the death of Ningthoujam Rohit, who was pursuing BA 5th semester at Thoubal College, another student named as Khundongbam Sanamacha, studying in BA 5th semester at YK college, was also injured in the incident and admitted to RIMS hospital.
Noting that unwanted incidents related with election have been occurring between workers of two political parties and candidates, the bodies urged for looking into the matter seriously and demanded punishment to all the culprits involved.
BJP Heirok Mandal also condemned demolition of houses, thrashing and firing at people and burning of vehicles in connection with election in Heirok.
Meanwhile, Senior Citizen Forum Heirok convener Moirangthem Rajmohon has said that a civil war is very much eminent if the government fails to pay immediate attention to the incidents of violence that are taking place in Heirok and bring out truth about the continuing election related violence.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, Rajmohon said that unidentified black dressed gang continues to torture and thrash innocent people in Heirok since the past few months.
The Forum had submitted memorandum to Governor, CM, Election Commission and DC and SP of Thoubal district highlighting activities of these black dressed men and urged government to find out their identity and reason for carrying out such excessive activities.
However, there has been no response so far, he lamented.
In the continuing excessive acts by the black dressed men, an unwanted incident happened in Heirok on Tuesday night.
Apart from killing one person and injuring some others in the incident, several household items including vehicles were damaged.
The continuing unwanted incidents forced many residents to flee Heirok and look for safe shelter after the sun sets.
However, government remains silent as mute spectator, he said adding that security personnel might be encouraging the general public to stay calm but they are unable to take up any action to identify the black dressed men creating havoc to general population.
CM Biren claims of improving law & order situation in the state but it is contradictory in Heirok and the AC seems to have no law & order at present, Rajmohon said and appealed to CSOs of the state to save Heirok and its people.
Rajmohon also said that the Forum will once again submit the same memorandum submitted earlier to the Governor, CM, Election Commission and SP and DC of Thoubal district.
