Governor visits HQ IGAR (S); Vijay Varsh celebrated

Governor La Ganesan visited the headquarters of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Mantripukhri on Friday.
The Governor was received by IGAR (S) major general Alok Naresh and briefed the former on the role and contribution of the Assam Rifles in maintaining peace and tranquility in Manipur.
An update on civic actions undertaken by the Force to assist the people of the state was also given.
The Governor interacted with the officers and troops of the formation and encouraged them to continue their good work and excellent service to the nation.
He visited Chanakya hall, helipad and war memorial of IGAR (S), paid homage to the fallen soldiers at the memorial by laying a wreath in their honour and put signature to the visitor's book.
Later, he felicitated war veterans/ex-servicemen for their service to the nation and veer naaris for their sacrifices for the country.
He further distributed prizes to meritorious students of class VI to X of Assam Rifles Public School, Mantripukhri for their excellent academic performance even during the difficult times of Covid-19 pandemic.
On the other-hand, Keithelmanbi Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles/IGAR (S) continued celebrations of Swarnim Vijay Varsh with befitting enthusiasm and great fanfare at Keithelmanbi and Nambol on Friday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) recounted that the Golden Jubilee of the victory of India in the 1971 war for liberation of Bangladesh, being celebrated as "Swarnim Vijay Varsh", was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from National War Memorial in New Delhi on December 16, 2020 .
Four Victory Flames (Swarnim Vijay Mashaal) lit from the eternal flame at National War Memorial have been travelling across the length and width of the country, of which one has reached Nambol.
The 'Victory' celebrations at Nambol commenced with the arrival of Victory Flame followed by paying homage to the fallen soldiers with wreath laying who had made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Mashaal' was presented a Guard of honour by the Assam Rifles and NCC cadets.
Meira Paibi activists also joined in paying floral tributes to the valiant soldiers who attained 'Veergati' on the path of duty, the PRO said.
Nambol AC MLA & MPCC president N Loken Singh, ex-servicemen of Assam Rifles, CSOs, local populace, dignitaries from CAPF and state administration including deputy commissioner Bishnupur along with police officials attended the event.
The occasion was filled with expression of gratitude towards ex-servicemen who were also felicitated by N Loken for their service to the nation.
The event witnessed holistic participation of people from all walks of life.
The celebrations concluded with the Mashaal reaching Keithelmanbi garrisan escorted by local bike riders, where it will remain for the night.
