Imphal, March 22 2018:
Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has announced a State-wide total shutdown from the midnight of March 30 till 6 pm of April 1 against the alleged State Government's failure to conduct an enquiry and produce a white paper on the Central schemes implemented in the State under MOBC Department for minorities from 2010 to 2017 .
Addressing a press meet held today at its head office located at Hatta Minuthong, MMWO general secretary MA Chesaba said that the organisation was compelled to announce the total shutdown due to the Government's ignorance on their demand despite launching different modes of democratic agitation in the past.
He reminded that the organisation had served a deadline to the State Government for initiating an enquiry into the alleged wrongdoings in the MOBC Department in connection with the implementation of Centrally sponsored schemes meant for minorities in the State.
Even though the deadline expired three days back, there is no positive response from the Government till today, he said.
He informed that essential services, religious events and media will be exempted from the purview of the total shutdown.
He appealed to individuals and civil society organisations to extend cooperation to the total shutdown.
Mention may be made that three strong resolutions including taking up intensified democratic forms of agitation if the Government fails to institute an investigation into the alleged wrongdoings in the MOBC Department within seven days were adopted during a one-day open discussion held recently at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak.
Members present at the programme also unanimously resolved to launch non-cooperation movement along with the people against the works taken up by MOBC Department by its officials, including Commissioner and Chairperson as well as in the institutions for minorities opened under the department.
