Imphal, February 22 2018:
Even though wild elephants were found in different parts of the State in the past, Forest Department officials recently spotted wild elephants in the forest of Tamei sub-division, Tamenglong district near Chakha village.
Forest Department officials recently carried out a survey and they came across pugmarks and faeces of elephants.
The survey led by Western Forest Division DFO Huri Golmei, ACF Napoleon Rongmei and Range Officer Kh Khogen established that wild elephants are present in the forest adjoining Chakha village, informed a source.
Some officials of Forest Department and volunteers of the village have been camping at the village to further investigate the discovery, said the source.
