Security in Ukhrul to protect public not to terrorize them: Gaikhangam

Kakching, July 21 2014: Posting of security forces in Ukhrul is intended to protect the public from escalating violence and murder, it is not against any community or organization.

This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while attending the Silver Jubilee celebration of Representatives of Lois (ROL), Kakching held at Kakching Khullel Ibudhou Khamlangba Laibung yesterday.

Replying to queries from media persons after the programme, Deputy Chief Minister who graced the function as chief guest, said the state government has not taken any action to terrorise the people.

The security officers, under strict orders from the authority, are posted to protect the people from the perpetrators of violence and murder, he added.

There is no report of the security personnel indulging in undesirable actions, Gaikhangam claimed while reasoning that the state government has to fight against lawlessness by using the Acts and laws, as it cannot remain a silent spectator to the increasing violent acts.

When the situation becomes peaceful, the need for security persons would not arise, he said.

During the silver jubilee celebrations organized by Representatives of Lois (ROL) Kakching, Kakching MLA Y.Surchandra and Wabagai MLA Haji Md.Fajur Rahim attended as guests of honour, while Dr.Th.Ojit, president of Representatives of Lois presided over the programme.
