Imphal, November 20 2021:
The Inner Line Permit (ILP) System being implemented in the state is full of flaws and the government needs to initiate immediate measures to amend the flaws, said JCILPS convener BK Moirangcha.
Addressing a press meet at JCILPS office here on Saturday, BK Moirangcha said that it has been two years since chief minister N Biren assured of discussing the provisions of the ILP System following extension of ILPS in the state by the Centre.
However, no actions have been taken up to amend the system till date.
At the same time, the government is not paying adequate attention to the functioning of ILPS gates in Jiribam and Mao, he alleged.
During the drive that began from Thursday, the committee found over 250 non-locals without ILP passes or with expired passes.
Police department extended cooperation in the drive and the non-locals were taken to the DC office.
Unfortunately, they were released after providing a form instead of imposing penalty.
Unless the system is rectified and strict measures taken up against violators, the claim of implementing the LLPS is meaningless.
With several flaws and lack of commitment on the part of the government in its implementation, the ILPS system is becoming powerless, he said while urging the government to amend the provisions of the system before the election code of conduct comes into effect.
On the other hand, the convener described as unfortunate that a news report with misleading information about JCILPS was published in a Tripura-based newspaper.
The drive carried out by JCILPS is not in the interest of any individual but to protect the indigenous people of the state.
JCILPS strongly condemns the media report that portrays the committee as anti-India and demanded clarification from the newspaper.
He also warned of taking up legal actions against the newspaper if no apology is tendered.
