Imphal, November 19 2021:
Asserting that the state government is taking up initiatives to bring industrial revolution and improve the state's economy as well as create more jobs, commerce and industries minister Thongam Biswajit has drawn attention of union minister for MSME Narayan Rani to approve the proposals for setting up two new industrial estates and two honey clusters in the state.
Biswajit brought up the proposal during the North East MSME Conclave attended by chief ministers and industry ministers at Taj Vivanta, Guwahati on Thursday.
At the event, Biswajit said that Manipur became the top NE state with highest number of MSME registration with 12,438 new MSME units getting registered during 2015 to 2019 .
As per Udyam registration portal, the state is at the top in providing jobs among the north-eastern states.
As per MSME ministry's report, the enterprises in the state were able to generate 1.8 lakh jobs in 2020-21, he pointed out.
In the last five years, financial assistance have been provided to 5901 units/individuals under PMEGP.
Unfortunately, banks seem to lack interest in PMEGP, he said while urging the central government to look into the matter.
Manipur is the gateway of the country to the South East Asian countries and it can bring economic development of not only the state but also for the country by developing trade and commerce in the state, Biswajit said.
