Shija observes National Pharmacovigilance Week

With an aim to raise awareness on importance of reporting Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) to enhance patient care, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, in collaboration with Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), observed the 4th National Pharmacovigilance Week at Shija auditorium on Thursday.
According to a statement, the observance held under the theme "Building ADR Reporting Culture for Patient Safety" had the participation of around 100 medical professionals.
In their addresses, Shija CMD Dr Palin Khundongbam, highlighted the hospital's non-punitive reporting system, and encouraged the staff members to prioritise patient safety as Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam noted that medical errors account for 25 to 30 percent of patient deaths and Dr Neerajkumar Sharma Manohar from SAHS emphasised the critical role of ADR reporting in enhancing safety, The event featured a presentation competition for junior residents, judged by Prof Subhalakshmi Akham and Dr Kennedy Taiyenjam, with winners receiving cash prizes.
Shija Academy of Health Sciences was recognised as an Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre under the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India in 2022, reflecting its commitment to safe healthcare practices, informed the statement.
