Imphal, March 19 2015:
All Tribal Disables' Union Manipur (ATDUM) has sought political representa-tion for persons with disabilities.
A statement issued by ATDUM General Secretary, T Chuongsin said the union had a camp in Delhi from March 14 to 18 to highlight many issues relating to the plight of persons with disabilities in Manipur.
During the camp, the participants met BJP National President Amit Shah for seeking reservation of party tickets for diffe-rently disabled persons in the upcoming Autono-mous District Council (ADC) election.
"Even after more than 65 years of indepen-dence, all the laws and regulations which guaratees the rights and privileges to persons with disabilities remain in books only", Chuongsin pointed out.
Despite reservations in Government jobs, diffe-rently disabled persons still remain the most backward and under-privileged section in the society.
Their voices remain unheard and the masses are still ignorant about their plight.
This situation can be changed only when the persons with disabilities get their representation in the political arena, Chuongsin added.
