The 60 MLAs of the State cast their votes to elect a new President of India in the State Assembly's committee room today.
Amid tight security arrangement, the polling started at 10 am and it went on till around 1 pm .
The value of vote cast by an MLA of the State is 18 .
The Presidential election is a straight fight between BJP-led NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu and Opposition's common candidate Yaswant Sinha.
It is said that the ballot box would be taken to Delhi tomorrow.
It has been already notified that the votes would be counted on July 21 .
Speaking to media persons after casting his vote, Chief Minister N Biren claimed that the NDA candidate would get votes of 55 MLAs out of the total 60 MLAs of the State.
He went on to claim that Droupadi Murmu would emerge victorious with a huge margin.
Biren asserted that the NDA candidate would secure 97 per cent of the total votes cast in the State.
Biren also conveyed gratitude to the people and the MLAs of the State.
Based on the principles of diversity and secularism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated a tribal woman for the country's highest post and this is a testimony of empowering women, Biren remarked.
CLP leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said that India is home to numerous communities and there should not be any distinction among the communities in a democracy.
The representative elected by the people must be the people's leader, he added.
