Incessant rainfall triggers landslides, NH 37 blocked

Noney, August 16 2023: Due to incessant rains in the last 24 hours, multiple landslides and mudslides occurred in many locations along NH-37 (Imphal - Jiribam Road) .

Major landslides/mudslides occurred in between Irang and Khongshang village near Khongshang Train station.

Efforts to clear off the debris are being undertaken in war footing by the road construction company.

According to the road construction company's PRO, it might take at least one week to clear the debris owing to the massive landslide measuring about 300 metres that occurred between Awangkhul Part 2 and Irang village.

In case of further downpour, landslides/mudslides are possible at many locations.

Following the blockage of the highway due to the landslides, vehicles coming from Tamenglong and Nungba towards Imphal have been diverted towards Rengpang - Khoupum - Bisnupur Road to reach Imphal.

Meanwhile, a team of district administration led by SDO Noney, Pourallung Maringmei rushed to the landslide areas to assess the situation and to monitor safety of commuters.

As per report received from the SDO, at least 12 landslides/mudslides sites were spotted in the jurisdiction of Noney district.
