Amidst the global outbreak of coronavirus, reports of hardships faced by Manipuri students and other individuals stranded in different parts of the country due to the Nationwide lockdown are being circulated on social media and other sources, said a press release issued by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) .
It is alleged that the adversity faced by them has been made more acute with issues of racial discrimination/stereotyping, leading to additional hardships and fear psychosis amongst them.
In this regard, and also as an initiative to assist Government policy, MASLSA has requested member secretaries of all the State Legal Services Authorities to provide all possible assistance to students and individuals from Manipur and North East stranded in their respective States in order to avoid any unfortunate incidents, it said.
Manipur Government has also provided a consolidated list of 16,528 individuals from Manipur registered at tengbang.in.
Justice Kh Nobin Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur, in order to provide further assistance has requested executive chairman of all State Legal Services Authorities to get in touch with their respective State Governments to provide essential items to the stranded individuals on humanitarian grounds, it added.
List of stranded individuals from Manipur along with their address and contact number have also been shared with all the State Legal Services Authorities.
