East Timor President to visit state in May

Environmental activist Licypriya Kangujam said East Timor President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr Jose Ramos Horta will be visiting the state in May this year, the first by an international leader in the history of Manipur.
Licypriya made the announcement during the inauguration of the Dr Jose Ramos Horta International Peace Centre and East Timor Information Centre, India, at Samaram near the Khongjom War Memorial complex, on Friday.
In a statement made available to the media, Licypriya shared that the centre features four meeting halls, two galleries dedicated to the freedom struggle and the life story of President Ramos Horta, as well as one each presidential and bilateral room.
The inauguration event was attended by officials from East Timor embassy in New Delhi, including Charge d'affaires Francesco Fernandes, and social activist Bhupal Pidikiti, among others.
The statement also mentioned that another official inauguration of the centre will take place in May, with President Dr Jose Ramos Horta as the chief guest.
She appealed to the people of Manipur to warmly welcome the East Timor President, from Imphal Airport to Khongjom.
Dr Horta initially planned the Manipur visit in February.
However, due to the prevailing unrest in the state, the visit was postponed.
His visit is expected to send a message of peace to the people of Manipur and have a positive impact in the region.
East Timor Ambassador in-charge Francesco Fernandes, who was present on the occasion, stated that the International Peace Centre and East Timor Information Centre, in Manipur will help strengthen the relationship between East Timor and India.
The centre will offer valuable services to the people of the Northeast, providing essential information on visas, tourism, education, and trade for those interested in visiting East Timor.
