Imphal, December 15 2024:
While describing Khongjom Parva as para-theatre form emanated and carried forth from the blood of the Meetei people, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre's Board of Governors member Budha Chingtham cautioned that the Meetei society would perish with the extinction of Khongjom Parba.
Budha shared his opinion during the closing function of '2nd Cultural Tour of Khongjom Parba in 16 districts of Manipur' organised by Kanglei Sheishaklon Sindamshang under cultural functions and production grant scheme of the Ministry of Culture.
He attended the event held at Bal Mukunda Dev Music College auditorium, Palace compound as chief guest, while Kanglei Sheishaklon Sindamshang founder cum president Khumanthem Sundari was president and Manipur University of Culture's Umanglai Department head Dr Nganbi Chanu was guest of honour.
According to Budha Chingtham, Khongjom Parva is a precious art form of the Meetei society, resembling Dadaism.
Khongjom Parva spread the spirit of patriotism, creating sense of nationalism among the people.
However, there is clear sign of gradual waning of the rich indigenous art form and accordingly Kanglei Sheishaklon Sindamshang arranged the cultural tour to revive and preserve Khongjom Parva, he said while stressing the need for collective efforts to revive the art form.
During the event, Khongjom Parva artiste Rosni Yumnam and her party presented 'Khambana Kangla Karak-pa' (Moirang Kangleirol), 'Thoibina Loktak Patyaida Ngami Themba' (Moirang Kangleirol) and Khongjom Lan.
Participants of the cultural tour were also presented certificate.
