Imphal, November 14 2019:
Even though there was no acute shortage of LPG in the State during the last couple of months, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) could not supply adequate quantity of LPG to the public.
There was no adequate stock of LPG in the Sekmai Bottling Plant.
As such, the plant could not supply adequate quantity of LPG to distributors.
At some point of time, the bottling plant ceased all its operations and no bottling of LPG was done.
According to information received from IOCL's Imphal Retail Sales Office, there was no LPG in stock at the Sekmai Bottling Plant except for a limited quantity reserved for emergency purposes.
One primary factor for the limited stock of LPG was drastic reduction in the frequency and volume of transporting bulk LPG to the State.
On account of problems on highways and other factors, frequency of movement of LPG convoys was cut down.
As a result, the volume of bulk LPG transported to the State also declined.
Nonetheless, steady transportation of bulk LPG to the State during the past two/three days has improved the stock situation.
There is now five days' requirement of LPG at Sekmai Bottling Plant, informed the source.
The source informed that LPG would be made available to consumers regularly after a couple of days.
Meanwhile, one LPG refill of 14.2 Kg capacity is being sold at Rs 1100 to Rs 1400 in black markets which otherwise costs Rs 823.85 when bought from LPG distributors.
