Imphal, November 14 2013: A national level library week celebration under the theme of 'Library for Quality' cum Prof MR Kumbar Memorial Lecture organized by the Department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University was held today at the conference hall of the university.

The programme was attended by H Nandakumar, Vice-Chancellor of MU as Chief Guest; Prof Th Purnima, Head Dept of Library and Information Science, MU as President; and Dr Th Khomdon, Librarian, MU and Prof PK Paighrahi, DLIS, Calcutta University as Guests of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, H Nandakumar opined that the role of Library and Information Science professionals need to be geared up in the present world as it has acquired an important position in the field of education.

Prof PK Paigrahi stated that there are around 900 library centers in Kolkata at present and invited research scholars from the State to visit the city if they need any help concerning library.

The programme participated by members of Library and Information Science Students' Association (L & SSAM) also saw presentation of papers on 2nd Prof MR Kumbar Memorial Lecture.
