PPCM reminds people about sovereign Manipur

Marking the 75th Independence Day of Manipur, different component bodies of Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) raised the 'Pakhangba' flag at several places to remind the people about the existence of Manipur (Kangleipak) as a sovereign nation at one time.
According to a PPCM statement issued by its convener Jeetendra Ningomba, Manipur (Kangleipak) had reached the level of a complete civilisation as successive generations and kings from time to time rilled up shortages of the nation one after another.
Manipur's ability of highest calibre and having imitable high level of thought in every field are being justified with research works done at higher educational institutions of neighbouring countries.
Though Manipur existed as a powerful nation and was administered with highest instinct, there had been stages in the course of its history about facing disaster and there was quite contrasting administration beginning from the time just before the World War-I.Owing to differences and mistrust among siblings of the then king, Manipur headed into the direction of chaotic administration.
As a result, Manipur faced a big battle with the British in 1891 and lost.
Thereafter, Manipur remained as a kingdom under the British Crown for 56 years.
As the king and the British were in tussle for power, people faced innumerable pain and suffering on several occasions.
As several pioneers emerged amidst the global wave of change and launched the movement for restoration of sovereignty, there were many political and social movements in Manipur.
After the end of World War-II, Manipur regained its sovereignty as per an order of the British Parliament.
Accordingly, the flag of the British Union was lowered on August 14, 1947 and replaced by the Pakhangba flag.
Thereafter, celebrations for regaining freedom was held at several places, the PPCM statement said and appealed to every community settling in Manipur since time immemorial not to remain weak or timid but rather fight for their legitimate rights and do the needful for unity and harmony.
Time for working on vested interest of a particular community or pushing forward with such agenda is passe, the PPCM statement said and maintained that peace, development and harmony could be brought in Manipur when such selfish agendas are discarded arid move towards a new era of longer vision where one community respects and honours another and has mutual trust.
The PPCM statement also urged entire people of Manipur to shoulder the responsibility in fighting COVID-19 pandemic by following globally accepted guidelines.
