20 additional CAPF companies land in state

In view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, the central government has despatched additional 20 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) from Assam and Tripura, to! Manipur.
In an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the chief secretary, home secretary and DGP Manipur, the 20 CAPF companies consist of 15 CRPF companies from Assam and five Border Security Force (BSF) companies from Tripura.
They are to be deployed in Manipur till November 30.The order further informed that along with the new 20 CAPF companies, a total of 218 companies of CAPF of which 115 are CRPF companies, eight RAF companies, 84 BSF companies, six SSB companies and five ITBP companies, are to be deployed in Manipur till November 30.Mention may be made here that the Ministry of Home Affairs had ordered for the deployment of 20 CAPF companies comprising around 2000 personnel in Manipur from midnight of Tuesday.
Subsequently, the security personnel were airlifted for immediate deployment.
On November 10 and 11, suspected Kuki-Zo terrorists clad in camouflage attacked Borobekra police station and the CRPF camp located close to the PS in Jakuradhor, wherein 10 suspected Kuki terrorists were killed in the ensuing gunfight with the CRPF personnel.
In the wake of the fresh attacks, the Centre rushed 20 additional CAPF companies comprising about 2000 personnel.
At least 10 suspected Kuki militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday after the militants in camouflage uniforms, armed with sophisticated weapons, fired indiscriminately at the Borobekra police station and the adjacent CRPF camp in Jiribam district.
A huge cache of sophisticated weapons were also seized by the force following the fierce gun battle.
All these CAPF units will be at the disposal of the Manipur government till November 30 as ordered by the MHA but the deployment is expected to be extended, the sources said.
Tension has been high in Manipur since last week due to a fresh round of violence in Jiribam.
Following the Monday incident, fresh violence was reported from multiple places in Imphal Valley where armed groups from the two warring sides engaged in exchange of fire, the state police had said.
