Forest staff avert spread of wildfire

Thoubal, January 13 2021: Timely action on the part of Forest staff has helped prevent a wildfire from further spreading and damage at Kobithabi under Nongmaiching Forest Range.

According to a statement issued by Irilbung BO, forest staff on receiving the information that there was a forest fire at around 6 pm on January 11, rushed to the spot and managed to contain the fire by around 10.30 pm .

Before the arrival of the forest staff, the villagers had also informed the fire to the State Fire Service.

A fire tender and a water tanker approached but they had to withdraw before reaching the spot due to bad terrain.

The fire was nearly put off by the nearby villagers however it resurged due to strong wind current, said the villagers.
