Imphal, November 12 2024:
The Police Control Room, in a statement, refuted allegations, widely circulating on social media by some organisations regarding the events of November 11 at Jakuradhor and Borobekra in Jiribam district that accused the CRPF and Manipur Police of foul play during the incident.
The police also disclosed that the militants involved in the attack were from Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts, having travelled a long distance to Jiribam with the intent to carry out the assault.
According to the police statement, the militants launched coordinated attacks on Borobekra police station, which was sheltering internally displaced persons (IDPs), and the nearby CRPF post at Jakuradhor.
The militants were armed with sophisticated weapons, including RPGs and automatic rifles.
The attack resulted in some nearby houses being damaged and set on fire by the assailants.
The statement clarified that the security forces retaliated during the attack, engaging the militants in a firefight.
It affirmed that the armed militants were not ambushed but neutralised during retaliatory action.
The statement further highlighted that had the security forces not responded, the damage could have been far worse.
