Imphal, November 12 2021:
While stating that the issue of MLAs joining another political party at the time of the polls without resigning from their posts is being over-hyped with the intention of creating unrest; Sagolband AC MLA RK Imo, who recently joined BJP, has offered to resign from the MLA seat immediately, if this is what is wanted from him.
The MLA was speaking during inauguration of the new club building of Nepra Menjor Pukhri Mapal Youth Development Association (NEMYODA) on Friday.
Remarking that the Code of Conduct would soon take effect with the election date approaching, RK Imo observed that the matter of whether an MLA should resign or not after joining another political party holds little importance, adding that there is no need to create an issue out of the same either.
"It is common for MLAs to join another political party at the time of election and this should not be an invitation for mentioning disqualification or any other.
I joined BJP with a goal.
However, some people, who are dissatisfied with my decision, have been making statements while taking advantage of the upcoming polls.
If they really want me to resign from the MLA seat, I will do so immediately," he contended.
RK Imo continued that the poll results are not guaranteed even if one joins BJP as the final decision-makers are the people only.
He joined BJP so as to help the ruling government spread its roots far and wide in the coming years.
Thus, he urged the people to help the CM Biren-led government to become well-rooted in the state in the upcoming election.
Regarding the inauguration, the MLA said that the building was constructed with his LADF and credited the people for successful completion of the construction.
He then gave assurances of helping Sagolband AC to be come more developed in the upcoming term, while also working for the welfare of the people.
Presided over by NEMYODA advisor Wangkhem Irabot, the programme was attended by IMC Ward no 10 ex-corporator S Tiken and IMC Ward no 7 ex-corporator RK Jiten as guests of honour.
