Death anniversary of Y Sekho observed

Floral tribute was offered to the photograph of Yumnam Sekho, a well-known artiste of Nata Sankritan/Pung to commemorate the 5th death anniversary of the late artiste today at the Community Hall of Mitong Lampak, Laipham Khunou.
The observance programme was organised by the Institute of Manipur Performing Arts (IMPA) in association with the Department of Art and Culture, Govt of Manipur.
The death anniversary observance was attended by Director, Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, L Upendro Sharma as the chief guest while president of IMPA Kh Momon was the functional president.
Manipur State Kala Akademi awardee N Shyamchand and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee L Lakpati were the guests of honour.
Late Sekho was a renowned pung artiste, who had won various awards and recognition from different departments.
He was, amongst others, a recipient of the Senior Fellowship Award of 2001-02 given by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Department of Culture, Government of India in the field of 'Nata Pung'.
He was also honoured with the Maharaja Nara Singh award in the year 2002 by the Government of Manipur for his outstanding contributions in the field of Nata Pung.
Not only he was adorned with various acknowledgement and awards, he had also performed in various parts of the country and choreographed 'pung cholom' on numerous occasions.
Speaking at the occasion Padmashree Guru S Thanil expressed that the late artiste inspired hundreds of 'nata sankritan' lovers to join in the movement of 'sankritan' and had produced a number of students.
He stated that students of various institutions should give due respect to their teachers and should take this art form to higher level of perfection.
As part of the death anniversary observation 'sankritan' was performed by artistes of IMPA.
