State farmers protest at Jantar Mantar

Imphal, December 11 2013:
Around 500 farmers from the State under the aegis of Manipur Loumi Marup staged a sit-in-protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today demanding appropriate compensation for the fishermen and farmers affected by Loktak Project and other welfare schemes for the farmers.
Prior to the sit-in, a mass rally led by Secretary of Loumi Marup H Ibobi was also carried out from Ram Lila Maidan to Jantar Mantar.

The representatives of Loumi Marup would meet the Prime Minister in New Delhi tomorrow to press their demands.
The demands of the farmers include timely completion of dams and projects taken up by the Government, monthly pension of Rs.3000 to farmers, provision for drinking water in every village, proper irrigation facility, proper implementation of PDS and repeal of AFSPA from the State, etc.
