Govt lauded for recognising Mission Blind School

Mission Blind School, Heikakpokpi has lauded the state government, chief minister N Biren in particular, for recognising the school as full-fledged residential special school.
Speaking in this regard, School principal K Pareng Kom, himself a visually impaired person, recounted that the school was established on February 3, 2003 with an objective to educate blind people.
Visually impaired students even from outside the state have been attending the school, the principal added.
Teaching and non-teaching staff of the school managed the school with serious difficulties till 2017/2018 as school could not even provide travel fare for its staffers, Pareng recalled, while adding that the school was managed with the support of churches, Assam Rifles, Lions Club and several other NGOs.
Fortunately, chief minister Biren, social welfare minister and social welfare department recognised the school as government grant-in aid school and extended a sum of Rs 10 lakh (approximately) annually.
Later, fulfilling his assurance, chief minister Biren recognised it as government full-fledged school on August 7 .
For this, the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school is indebted to the government led by CM Biren, the principal reiterated.
